What makes up a computer?
Have you ever wondered what makes up a computer? What each part in a computer does? Believe it or not, as complex as a computer is, there are only 7 key parts that are needed to make a computer.
A computer case, also known as a computer chassis, is the containment unit that holds the internal computer components and protects them from the outside forces. They come in many different shapes and colors, depending on the purpose you are looking for in a computer.
The motherboard is one of the key components of a computer. It is the main printed circuit board that connects all the other computer parts together to communicate with each other.
The processor, also known as the central processing unit (CPU) functions as the brain of a computer. Its main purpose is to read and process computer program operations. The better the processor, the more your computer is able to do in conjunction to the RAM
RAM, also known as random access memory, is what determines how fast your computer all together works. The more RAM you have, the fast your computer is able to perform. It works in conjunction to the processor.
5. Hard Drive
The hard drive of a computer holds your data and information. The bigger the hard drive (GB wise) the more data you are able to hold. It is very important to know that it is highly recommended that you do not exceed 90% used hard drive space because once you do, your computer tends to slow down and not be able to function properly.
6. Power supply
The power supply, as the name states, is what powers your computer. It connects to the motherboard which allocates where the power goes (processor, power lights, etc)
7. Operating System
The operating system (OS) is the software needed to manage a computer’s software and hardware. It controls what hardware within the computer is used when performing certain functions. Many know of operating systems from Macs OS and Windows. Smart phones also have operating systems, such as android and apple iOS.
